Health Services

We are committed to the wellness of all children in our care. We know that children must be healthy to learn and grow to their full potential. Parents have the primary responsibility for their child’s health, so we work in partnership with parents to provide the services below.

Health Insurance

Our staff is trained to help families apply for health coverage, such as Medi-Cal and Healthy Families, and to select a medical and dental provider for their child.

Well Child Exams

In order to stay well and prevent health problems, children need to visit their doctor regularly to have Well Child Exams. Our staff work with parents to make sure children visit the doctor on time.

Immunizations

Many dangerous childhood diseases can be prevented by immunization and California State Law requires that all children be up-to-date to attend child care. Our staff work with parents to keep children up-to-date on their immunizations. Parents can also call (925) 313-6767 to locate immunization clinics and schedules throughout the county. For more information, please visit Contra Costa Health Services Immunization webpage.

Care Plans

All children with health problems are identified by staff upon enrollment or as soon as the child is diagnosed. Care plans are promptly developed with the child’s doctor to ensure that staff does everything possible to address the child’s needs. Our staff have extensive training in serving children with asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders and other impairments.

Vision and Hearing Screenings

Within 45 days of enrollment, all children have their hearing and vision tested, either by their own doctor, or by certified program staff. If a problem is identified staff work with parents to make sure the child is quickly seen by a doctor and treatment is provided. We are a Site for Students provider and can offer free eye exams and glasses to all children without insurance coverage.

Dental Care

Overall physical wellness also means having a healthy mouth. Children in our program must visit the dentist regularly. Staff help parents find dentists in their area and we have many volunteer dentists who donate their services to our children. We are also visited regularly by the Ronald McDonald Dental Care mobile. Children that do not have a dentist can get treatment.
